The Senate Aging Committee is holding a hearing at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, "Breaking the Cycle of Senior Loneliness: Strengthening Family and Community Support." Argentum President and CEO James Balda will testify on the critical role of senior living communities in promoting socialization and combatting isolation among seniors.

Ahead of the hearing, U.S. News & World Report released a report on showing that moving into a senior living community can improve a person's social isolation and loneliness. The report found that 61% say their feelings of loneliness or isolation improved after moving into a senior living community, and 85% of seniors have made friends since moving into a senior living community.

The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee voted 20-1 to advance S. 4776, the Older Americans Act Reauthorization Act of 2024, to extend the law, which expires on September 30, for another five years. The legislation includes Argentum-supported provisions to address workforce shortages and expand multigenerational care models that will aid senior living communities, residents, families, and caregivers.

The Senate Aging Committee held a hearing this morning, "The Long-Term Care Workforce: Addressing Shortages and Improving the Profession." The hearing focused on workforce issues across long-term care settings and served as a platform for Committee Chairman Bob Casey (D-PA) to promote S. 4120, the “Long-Term Care Workforce Support Act,” which he introduced yesterday with Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).
