Briefing: Regulating Private Equity's Role in Assisted Living

Posted by Argentum on June 25, 2024 at 10:37 AM

Legislation was recently introduced that includes assisted living communities among entities subject to criminal, civil, and financial sanctions in an effort to address alleged private equity and corporate abuse in health care. The bill is in addition to anticipated legislation that could limit private equity’s ability to finance assisted living development.

Argentum has expressed significant concerns about these measures, which have been echoed by researchers from Brown University, Georgetown University, and Johns Hopkins University who published an editorial in the Journal of Health Affairs, cautioning against regulating private equity in assisted living.

Tomorrow, Argentum will share important updates on these increasing efforts to regulate investment in assisted living and how Argentum is promoting the critical role private investment plays in ensuring access to high-quality assisted living options for our nation's seniors.

Briefing: Capitalizing on the Public Policy Institute Momentum

Posted by Argentum on March 22, 2024 at 12:21 PM

Calling all Argentum Advocates: Next week's member-exclusive policy briefing will share key insights from the recent Public Policy Institute (PPI) and how we can continue the momentum from the event over the coming weeks.

Argentum's PPI is the industry's largest advocacy event, and this year 130 advocates from 35 states made their voices heard in our largest event to-date, holding 151 meetings with Congressional offices. In addition to telling the story of assisted living and reframing the narrative through the the  Assisted Living" campaign, advocates helped to promote the SENIOR Act (H.R. 7605), the Care Across Generations Act (H.R. 6835), and the veterans assisted living pilot program (H.R. 1815, S. 495).

This month's session will share updates on our legislative priorities (including details on the brand new SENIOR Act), recent regulatory changes impacting providers, and how senior living advocates can continue the conversations from Capitol Hill to build on the momentum of PPI.

Your Voice is Needed to Tell Our Story!

Posted by Argentum on January 31, 2024 at 4:25 PM

Following last week's Senate Aging Committee hearing on assisted living and on the heels of recent media coverage of our industry, its more important than ever to tell our story. Here's how you can help:

  1. Register for the Public Policy Institute (early bird deadline is today!) The Public Policy Institute takes place from March 11-13 in Washington, DC. We strongly urge everyone to register for this influential event. We'll have the opportunity to connect with policymakers, share success stories, and demonstrate the vital role our industry plays in supporting seniors' well-being. Don't wait! Today, January 31, is the LAST DAY to secure the best rate for attendance.

  2. Send a message to your Senators and the Aging Committee. Aging Committee Chairman Bob Casey has requested stories from families. It's important that you share your story in both of these platforms:
    1. Our grassroots campaign “Why I Love My Assisted Living Community” where your story will go directly to your U.S. Senators offices.
    2. The Committee's website, Assisted Living Bills, where lawmakers have specifically asked to hear from stakeholders. We want them to hear your positive stories!

  3. Pledge to Join the Fight. Corporate contributions to the Advocacy Fund provide Argentum with resources to implement a robust public policy strategy at both the Federal and state levels on behalf of the senior living industry. Learn more about the Advocacy Fund and make a pledge today to proactively help shape the future of senior living.
