An FDA independent expert panel has recommended people 18 and older have a booster shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and that it be given at least two months after the first shot. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine was given as a single dose.
This is a broader recommendation than those for other types of COVID vaccines. The recommendation will go to the FDA and then to an advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, scheduled to meet Wednesday and Thursday.
Third doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, which were originally given as two doses, have already been authorized for people 65 and older.
