As of yesterday, the CDC reported that just under 4.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been distributed for use in long-term care facilities. On average, 137,000 doses of vaccine are being distributed for use by this sector each day. Previously, the CDC estimated a total of 3 million people needing vaccines within this sector and as such, they have already distributed 146% of the doses needed for skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and other long-term care settings.

Also as of yesterday, the CDC reported that 952,000 doses had been administered across the long-term care sector. While this means that only about 22% of the vaccines distributed for use have been administered, this offers a marked improvement over 15% from just a week ago. In addition, the long-term care sector is administering an average of just under 30,000 doses a day, which is a 50% improvement over the prior week.

We know many states have sub-prioritized assisted living communities behind skilled nursing facilities; it is our understanding that most of these facilities have been addressed or will be shortly and as such, we would expect to see continued increases in administration of vaccines in assisted living communities. Overall, vaccinations clinics are continuing to ramp up and we have more than enough first doses of vaccine for the long-term care sector.
