Take Action: Tell OSHA that Assisted Living is Home

Written by Argentum | May 12, 2022 at 6:04 PM

Argentum has been leading efforts to oppose onerous new regulations to mandate facemasks and physical barriers inside assisted living residences. We now need your help as Argentum Advocates to help amplify our message!

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a proposed rule last year that included numerous requirements for assisted living communities, including masking, barriers, or physical distancing. The agency withdrew a corresponding Emergency Temporary Standard, but is moving forward with the proposed rule.

Argentum submitted comments and testified at a hearing in opposition to the rule. We stressed that it is unnecessary and not appropriate as assisted living communities are seniors’ homes, and are unlike the institutional settings the rule otherwise attempts to regulate with masking and physical barrier requirements.

OSHA recently reopened the comment period to gather the public's feedback on the proposed rule. To help gather feedback from assisted living stakeholders, Argentum has provided a simple form to submit public comments directly to OSHA on the proposed rule, emphasizing that assisted living is home.

Please take a moment to submit your own comment for the public record, and share this with others who would be impacted by this regulation.

Please note that comments on this proposal must be submitted no later than Monday, May 23.
