Statement from James Balda on the Passing of George Chapman

On behalf of Argentum’s board of directors, members, and staff, we extend our sincerest sympathy to the family, friends, and colleagues of George L. Chapman, chief executive officer (CEO) and co-founder of Toledo, Ohio-based ReNew REIT, and a longtime leader in real estate investment trusts and the senior living industry.

It is with great sadness to lose a leader in the business such as George. He was beloved by many, and his loss will be felt by his work partners at ReNew REIT and his many connections to philanthropic endeavors taken on over the years.

In 2014, he retired as chairman, president, and CEO of the publicly traded Health Care REIT, now called Welltower Inc. He facilitated the growth of the company to be the largest health care REIT, investment grade rated, a member of the S&P 500, and the eighth-largest REIT overall.

In 2018, George helped found ReNew REIT as a privately held real estate investment trust specializing in senior housing communities.

Argentum would like to echo the sentiments of those who knew George best at ReNew who called him a pillar in the industry and the community, and a caring and generous man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with George’s wife Leslie, sons Caith Chapman, Brian Chapman, and Eric Chapman; stepdaughter Elise Ansberg; sister, Connie Dillon, and five grandchildren.
