Seeking Hurricane Relief for Senior Living Providers

Written by Argentum | October 27, 2022 at 1:18 PM

Argentum and its state partner, the Florida Senior Living Association (FSLA), have requested Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to provide assistance to senior living providers who have experienced losses as a result of Hurricane Ian.

Senator Rubio is expected to author legislation that will call for billions of dollars in relief for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and those who were severely impacted by Hurricane Ian. Specifically, FSLA and Argentum are requesting disaster relief to include the following:

  • Reimburse all uninsured losses for assisted living communities including flood and structural damage;
  • Reimburse all uncompensated costs related to assisted living communities that were forced to evacuate their residents and staff;
  • Provide financial assistance to assisted living staff members to compensate them for repairs for damage to their homes that are not covered by their personal insurance, so that assisted living communities do not lose their staff in an already tight health care workforce market; and,
  • Provide financial assistance to reimburse assisted living providers for increased staffing costs related to Hurricane Ian.

Paul Williams, Argentum’s vice president of government relations, had an opportunity to discuss these needs with Senator Rubio earlier this week and the senator has indicated his intention to work with us to assist senior living providers that were negatively impacted by Hurricane Ian.

If you have suffered losses in Florida as a result of Hurricane Ian that will likely not be covered by insurance, please provide details to Paul Williams at pwilliams@argentum.org.
