Lawmakers Amplify Efforts Seeking Relief for Senior Living

Earlier today, Representatives Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Anthony Gonzalez (R-OH) began circulating a sign-on letter to members of Congress, asking the Biden administration to allocate remaining provider relief fund dollars to senior living providers. The sign-on letter is a companion to the sign-on letter being led by Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Susan Collins (R-ME). Both letters underscore the critical need of senior living communities and amplify the message Argentum has been sending to the administration.

Argentum has been leading advocacy efforts to prioritize immediate relief to senior living providers. Relief to date has been insufficient to meet the more than $15 billion that providers have incurred in expenses/losses resulting from COVID-19, with only $3 billion allocated so far. These funds were first made available in September, yet many still have not received any federal relief—six months later providers are still waiting for backlogged Phase 2 and Phase 3 distributions.

The American Rescue Plan unfortunately did not allocate any dedicated relief for senior living providers. Argentum had secured amendments, including by Senator Collins, that would have added dedicated funding to providers; however, these were not adopted into the final package.

Argentum worked directly with Senators Sinema and Collins and Representatives Spanberger and Gonzalez to lead these letters to HHS on behalf of senior living providers. The support of additional lawmakers on each letter will demonstrate the importance of prioritizing relief, and we are urging all Argentum Advocates to call Congress asking your federal representatives to sign onto this letter!
