- Recent Member Level Meetings: In June, Argentum met with Sens. Casey, Tester, Baldwin, and Capito, in addition to Reps. Clark and Trahan. Each of these members have indicated that they support senior living priorities, especially on workforce development. As we follow up with staff, we are asking you to also make your voice heard on these important issues.
- NIC/NORC Study: On Tuesday, June 29th, Argentum joined Rep. Spanberger to host a Congressional Briefing on the recent NIC/NORC study showing that nearly two-thirds of assisted living providers reported no COVID-19 deaths in 2020. Two dozen congressional staffers attended, including a handful from the Aging Committee. You may also read an article from McKnight's Senior Living about the briefing.
- COVID-19 State Impact Data: We are encouraging you to use the COVID-19 impact data for all 50 states in any conversation with your member of Congress.
- Workforce Hill Message: The U.S. Census Bureau projects that by 2060 one in every five Americans (94.7 million) will be over age 65, and the over-85 population will have tripled. The National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC) estimates that to take care of this aging population, our country will need to have at least 1.4 million senior caregivers by 2025. Any upcoming legislation must address the imminent need for investing in the senior caregiving workforce to support these seniors. By 2050, the number of individuals needing long-term care (LTC) services is expected to double, and the number of seniors with cognitive decline and memory impairment is expected to increase five-fold. Every day 10,000 individuals turn 65, and over half of the U.S. population will need long-term care at some point in their lifetime.
