CDC Releases Guidance for Safe Visitation in Long-Term Care

The CDC has updated its infection prevention and control recommendations for fully vaccinated people in healthcare settings. These include recommendations for safe visitation in long-term care communities, as well as updated guidance on work restrictions and quarantine for fully vaccinated healthcare providers and residents in healthcare settings.

For long-term care communities, these recommendations are consistent with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services guidance released about indoor visitation in long-term care, nursing, rehabilitation, and other post-acute care facilities.

“We greatly appreciate the CDC putting forth guidelines for visitation in our communities," said James Balda, Argentum president & CEO.  "The opportunity to reinitiate and maintain visitation is extremely welcomed news, particularly as resident vaccination rates continue to be impressive across the industry (with over 95% of providers surveyed reporting 81-100% uptake)."

“There’s no doubt that the well-being of senior living residents depends largely on engagement with family members and loved ones," said Balda. "And while our communities have worked tirelessly to keep residents engaged through innovative activities during the pandemic, there’s certainly no substitute for long-awaited visitation. We are asking that states consider the CDC’s guidance and move swiftly to allow visitation as appropriate and where restrictions still remain. At Argentum, we will continue to work closely with our members and state partners to encourage state agencies to take these actions, as well.”
