CDC Recommends mRNA Vaccines Over Johnson & Johnson

The CDC yesterday announced that it is preferable to get an mRNA vaccine—such as Pfizer or Moderna in a two-shot series—over the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine.

This follows a recommendation from its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which was unanimous and based on considerations of the “latest evidence on vaccine effectiveness, vaccine safety and rare adverse events, and consideration of the U.S. vaccine supply,” the CDC said. The CDC added that there is abundant supply of mRNA vaccines.

However, the CDC added that “any vaccine is better than being unvaccinated,” and that anyone who does not want to get an mRNA vaccine would “still have access” to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
